Hip To This House - 1980s Hip House Mix - 6.15.2009

<img src="http://sircharlz.podOmatic.com/mymedia/thumb/1011547/0x0_1921678.jpg" alt="itunes pic" /><br />Wikipedia: "Hip house, also known as house rap, is a musical genre that mixes elements of house music and hip-hop. The style rose to prominence during the 1980s in New York and Chicago."

All I can say is 1989 had some of the best house beats in the form of HIP HOUSE. The pure energy that was laid into the grooves and the vocals is incredible.

This mix showcases some of the best House tracks of the time. There is enough raw beats here to set you straight.

Please leave a comment if you like this mix.

"WAY BACK WHEN" - A Breaks Retrospective

Breaks and Electro goodness from the 80's and a few lesser known gems from the early 90's.

Let's go way back to when the music was new and paved the way for generations to come.

DISCO HOUSE on 90hz.org 2/01/07 CD3

<img src="http://sircharlz.podOmatic.com/mymedia/thumb/1011547/0x0_675542.jpg" alt="itunes pic" /><br />CD 3:

Wow, a marathon set. It was fun! 3 hours seemed like an hour.

Looking back on this set I realize how important Disco has been to the "dance" music scene. It created the foundation for electronic music - especially early rap, which used much of Disco in its samples, garage and of course house.

Sure there are some really cheesy disco tracks and I am glad some of those got burned in stadiums years ago (lol), but where would we be today of disco never happened?

Still today there are a ton of tracks coming out that "borrow" from yesteryear. You can find disco samples all over the place.... and you know what? I don't ever seemed to get bored of it.

      <itunes:summary>CD 2:

This set brings up the tempo a bit with some harder classics from the past. A mix of Hard House and Trance make this mix a thumper.

Turn up the volume to 11 and pump the bass on this one!

Look for my show every Thursday at 10:00pm EST on http://www.90hz.org.

Old Skool TECHNO 1989-1991 CD2

<img src="http://sircharlz.podOmatic.com/mymedia/thumb/1011547/0x0_675545.jpg" alt="itunes pic" /><br />CD2:

This week let's turn back the hands of time to the late 80's up to 1991. That was a very special time for me because the music that converted me into the Rave scene was becoming popular in the underground dance scene. The New Wave scene was dying out in my area and was quickly being replaced with something new... something unique... TECHNO.

At the time I used to live about an hours drive from some of the best underground music stores in the world located in NYC. These records represent visits to those stores and many others up and down the East Coast.

Techno has always been a very important part of my DJ Identity. It cemented my love for the trade and kept me going year after year.

This mix celebrates the music that changed everything!

The 200 Dollar Mix - 90hz.org - 1.04.07 CD2

<img src="http://sircharlz.podOmatic.com/mymedia/thumb/1011547/0x0_675547.jpg" alt="itunes pic" /><br />This may be one of my last all new vinyl mixes I ever make. I am switching over to digital for a few reasons:

1) The cost of digital vs. vinyl is night and day. Some import records can cost 10,11, 12 dollars or more and most of the time you buy the record for just one track. You can buy a single track off the internet from places like beatport.com for 99 cents or 2 bucks.
2) Lots of possibilities with digital. Torq, Traktor, CDJ's... It is really amazing the different setups each DJ can have. The amount of control, etc. is amazing compared to just vinyl.
3) Did I mention cost? :) I can not afford 200 dollars a mix! I could have done this mix for 20-30 bucks if I was fully digital.

Anywayz, this mix is fresh and fun. Plenty of new HOUSE jams to wet your whistle.

The start of the mix has my tribute to the late, great James Brown who is by FAR one of the all time influential musicians of our time! I think I will dedicate an entire show to him in the future.

Catch me live every Thursday at 10:00pm EST on 90hz.org. Go to http://www.90hz.org for the schedule.
